This activity required the ctudents to prepare proffesional development program for school teachers. This is what we prepared in our group.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME FOR TEACHERS
LEVEL: FORM I AND II TEACHERS.
SUBJECT: GEOGRAPHY
TOPIC: LANDFORMING PROCESSES.
CONTEXT: RURAL SECONDARY SCHOOL
NEEDS: BASIC TECHNICAL SKILLS, TK, TPK, TCK
THEY HAVE; TK, CK AND PCK
THEY HAVE AFEW COMPUTERS AND LIMITED POWER SUPPLY.
HOWEVER THEY HAVE ENOUGH CLASSROOMS
CHANCES: SOLAR COMPUTERS.
DEFINITIONS
1. CK: Knowledge about land forming processes.
2. PK: Knowledge if teaching approaches which fit for land forming processes.
3. TK: Knowledge and skills about technologies and computers
4. PCK: The knowledge the teachers have in teaching land forming processes.
5. TCK: Knowledge of use of technologies to simply understanding the land forming processes.
6. TPK: Knowing the technology or tools available to teach land forming processes.
IMPLIMENTATION:
Being rural schools’ teachers, they have little or no ICT skills therefore our aim will be to facilitate the professional development at the ‘Basic Literacy Level’.
This will include:
- Introduction to computers
- Use of internet search engines to get information
- The use of graphic programs for drawing simple diagrams’
- Power point presentation.
- WebQuests/hyperlinks.
- How to integrate technology in the teaching of land forming processes.
o WebQuest linking pictures, videos
o Digital documentation: photos to show volcanoes, valleys, caldera, gullies etc. and videos to show volcanic eruptions, river erosions, wave actions etc.
o Use of geographical oriented software eg. Google earth.
- Discussion forum
- wikis and blogs for online collaboration.
BASIC TOOLS; Computer, printers, projectors.
SOFTWARE; Data access, power point, Google earth, search engines, games, drill and practice, wikis.
ORGANISATION AND ADMINISTRATION: This program can be done in standard classroom. Technological resources will be brought to the classrooms.
TEACHWER PROFESSIONAL DEVOLOPMENT; Technology is dynamic and teachers always update themselves with new technology.
Digital literacy and teachers to know how to use ICT for their own professional improvement.
